Whole-Body Vibration (WBV)

The Risk of WBV

Whole-Body Vibration (WBV) refers to vibration transmitted into the body through the seat or feet of the operator. Drivers of mobile machines, such as tractors, forklifts, excavators and ride-on mowers, can be exposed to WBV, which are associated with back pain.

However, other factors, such as posture and manual handling, can contribute significantly to back pain for drivers and equipment operators. It is recognised by regulators that further study is needed to fully understand the impact of WBV.

Nevertheless, as vibration exposure can cause harm to workers, the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 requires employers to assess and manage the risks of WBV in the workplace.

Our WBV Services

Our approach aligns with the HSE: focus on effective and practical risk management actions rather than wasting your resources on endless measurements. Our services include:

Onsite testing: To understand the risk from WBV, our team of expert consultants will attend your site to test your equipment under conditions that are representative of how you use them.
Risk Assessments and Management: We provide detailed exposure assessments in accordance with British Standards and HSE Guidance. The results will be used to generate a programme of recommended risk reduction and management actions.
WBV Training: We provide bespoke training courses in Whole-Body Vibration, from management briefings and toolbox talks, up to risk assessment and management competency courses.
